Wind Symphony and Concert Winds auditions for the 2022-23 School year will take place June 6-17. Auditions will be performed in person at the LLA Band Room.

Audition Information for 2022-23 school year
Wind Symphony (high school and exceptional 8th graders)
•. All 12 major scales and arpeggios memorized, two octaves where possible. Three octaves where possible (clarinets and flutes)
Scales are played tongued going up and slurred coming down.
Percussion scales are played full range on the xylophone.
• Chromatic scale full range of your instrument memorized
• Both audition etudes (not memorized)
Concert Winds (junior high and high school students)
• Major scales and arpeggios memorized in the concert keys of C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab and Db
Scales are played tongued going up and slurred coming down.
Percussion scales are played full range on the xylophone.
• Chromatic scale of 2 octaves memorized
• Both audition etudes (not memorized)

Due to the fact that Covid-19 robbed our students of so much playing and learning, this year’s Concert Winds auditions are performed based on grade level:
All percussionists will perform the scales as well as the etudes for snare drum, xylophone and timpani.
Students who audition for Wind Symphony but do not perform at an acceptable level may be invited to play in the Concert Winds at the director’s discretion.
Students are expected to audition in person at the Loma Linda Academy band room.

- Students entering 7th grade may play the scales and etudes written especially for them, labelled as “7th grade”.
- Students entering 8th grade or higher may choose to play the scales and etudes labelled “easier”.
- Students entering 8th grader higher may alternately choose to play the scales and etudes labelled as “more difficult”. Students who successfully perform the more difficult scales and etudes will be rewarded with higher seating placements.
